LCD TV set with strange symptom repaired. Model: JVC LT32R70SU
A friend of mine, also a computer technician brought this LCD TV to my shop for repair. I powered it up to see what was the problem. I did not see any kind of problem with it till I let it run for about twenty minutes. The customer explained that while he was watching the football game late at night, he was able to see this problem. The display on the screen was turning to black for only a second or so then the picture appears again.
Here is more information found on the back of this LCD TV set. It is an old set and it was heavy to carry which mean, quality in my opinion.
I lot of screws were taking out but finally, the back cover was off and here is what I saw.
There are a lot of boards inside but do not let scare you. It is still an LCD TV. If you understand one, you understand most of them.
To be honest with you, I did not know where to start. I have not seen this kind of symptom before. I went online and looked for such a problem and I talked to some repair technicains and all of them told me it has to do with unstable voltages on the power supply side or a bad T-Con board.
Here is the power supply and all the voltages were steady during and after the problem. So, we are on the safe side there.
I was thinking of either a bad T-Con or simply bad soldering joints on the inverter board.
My thoughts were on the inverter board rather than the T-Con one. I decided to re solder every single joint on that board. I used also my Kada re work station to re work the main IC’s there. I know it was a far shot but I was willing to give it a try. It took me forever to do that.
When I was done with the re soldering, I put everything back together. I was really happy to see that the problem disappeared. It was working fine again. I was so glad to see all that effort spent on that TV was met with success.
I let it run for about three hours and closely watching it. It passed the test. Mission accomplished.

Well done Waleed. That non-leaded solder really causes a lot of bad solder joints. We don't see "Made in the UK" very often. The Peak Atlas meters say "Made in England" on them.

I highly respect your articles that I have never miss.
This time I have a question, and i believe you can help.
I have an LCD TV PHILIPS 32HFL5561H. The simptom is IT HAS NO POWER UP AND ALWAYS GOES TO STANDBY. I checked the voltage at PS-BOARD at 2 Jacks connectors to the Main-Board, it has all 12V, 3.3V STBY, and 0v BL-ON, 0v DIM.
At the MAIN-BOARD I can see one of the LED light is ON just for 5 Second and then disappear, as the TV shut down again. ( I still can hear a shut down sound from the speaker. (12V for Audio at the PS-BOARD is functioning)
Do you have any idea why this tv SHUT DOWN AFTER 5 SECOND ?
Your support is highly appreciated
Thanks,
John

John: you are most welcome.
about the fault, the voltages you are getting? are they steady or they disappear when the TV shuts down. when the TV shuts down like that, I always check capacitors in the power supply or it might that the one of the high tension transformers gone bad. did you check for bad capacitors? let me know your findings.

Dear Mr. Waleed am so greatfull your posts widen my repair knowledge. I rather have a different scenario, its a sum sung LCD screen that had no picture display but sound OK. Upon troubleshooting I realised that the the fibre to the screen had a short circuit. Is there any possible way I can bring this screen back to life?
