A computer technician and a friend of mine brought me an LCD computer monitor for repair. He was cleaning the storage room and end up finding a lot of computer LCD monitors lying around. He brought me all of them but this was the only one that worth saving; the rest were dismantled and parts were stored in my shop to be used for later repairs.

There was no stand by light and based on that I took the screen apart to find out the cause of this fault.

I checked the fuse but it was intact and when I check the board for cold soldering joint

I found a lot of them and that is logical since it was staying in the storage room for a long time.

I also found these four bulged capacitors that needed to be replaced and hopefully that will bring this LCD monitor back to life.

If you look closely you would see some of the joints that needed fresh re soldering and also cleaning.

As seen in the photo, these four capacitors were replaced and I re-soldered almost all the cold soldering joints

on that board and made sure all were up to specifications.

After all these things were done, I powered the LCD monitor and hopped for the best.

no signal in lcd monitor

I was so glad to see the NO SIGNAL sign on display; the customer came and took it to his shop. We both agreed that this repair cost will be an exchange for all the parts I took out of the dead LCD monitors found in the customer’s storage room.

Mission Accomplished.

Not a bad deal when by helping someone without getting paid you still are able to get some spare parts out of it for future repairs!

Not sure cold soldering joints develop from storage.
