CD PLAYER REPAIR

A friend of mine brought this dead CD/Radio/Tape player for repair. I powered up the device and it did not show any sign of life so I opened the device to find out the fault.

Few screws were taken of and I was able to get inside of this device. It seems like in a good condition device and I was more than happy to take a look at it and help this friend out.

This guy works with a physically/mentally challenged people and I have visited that place many times. I was seen these amazing wonderful kids dancing, having fun to the sound of the music of this device and I liked that.

That is the bottom side of the device where the 220 AC volts coming in. It is a common sense to check and see if this device is getting the right voltage to work.

I was getting about 10 AC voltages out of the AC transformer into this board.

how to check a fuse

The voltage reading was getting to the main fuse but not coming out of it.

It seems like an open fuse but before replacing that fuse I need to check why the fuse was open.

fuse open circuit

I check the bridge rectifier diodes; any shorted components that cussed this fuse to go open but found nothing.

The fuse 3.16 amp rating was open and needed a replacement. I have plenty of these in my shop and I replaced it with a new one.

After the fuse replacement, I connected the device to my home made current limiter and the light bulb stayed dim indicating no short situation in this device.

I put everything back and called my friend for pick up. He was happy with the outcome. Later on that day I went to see the kids in that place and all were smiling and having fun dancing to the sound of music; to that I could definitely say

Mission Accomplished.

Maybe it was a sudden power surge that caused blowing that 'plastic' fuse? Hopefully the repair lasts a very long time now!
