A Play Station 4 Showing No Signal on TV Repaired
A guy who owns a play station 4 showed up to my shop and explained the problem in it. He said there is no display once he get it connected to any TV. While he was in the shop, I connected it to my TV and powered the device. There was no display on my TV and at the same time noise of the spinning fan inside the play station was very loud.
As you can see in this photo, the light changed to white which is normal but there was no display on TV. There were three things to fix on this device. The no display issue, the loud fan noise and the overheating. so let us begin.
I took all the screws off and believe me, there are a lot of them there and they are all the same length at least on this device. Once I get all the parts out I finally got to the play station board.
As I took it part, the thermal paste on this chip was dry which explain the overheating here. It was very dirty and there was lots of hair inside. As the customer explained, this is the first time this device was taken apart since he bought the play station six years ago.
One of the common problem of no display in play station is the main HDMI connection. Usually they have bent pins inside but when checking it under my microscope, it was in a perfect conditions.
The second thing I look for in no display issue in play stations is the main HDMI chip. If you check out the photo, you can see the location of this chip. Sad to say, I was so occupied with the micro soldering repair that I forgot to take photos of the process.
I used flux, and I set up my hot air station to 350 C and the air blow to 65. I had to take the shield first by heating up the board and then move the actual chip.
Here is the HDMI chip, and this chip usually the main suspect when having a no signal issue in any play station.
The hard thing for me was to take the shield off covering the IC but once the shield was out, the IC was easily removed.
That is my new helper in the shop. That is Mark my son who is 9 years old. Since there are no schools and after doing his homework over the net with his teachers, he spent some time with me in the shop. He helped me put the play station back together; he did a very good job.

From the article is obvious that you removed the old HDMi chip. I guess that you were easily able to get another new chip for replacement. Or did you just place the old chip back with new solder to the board? Since you didn't mention this clearly in the article.

My problem is that there is none in my family to take over my work! Very sad! My grand children are in Bangalore and I am in my home in Kerala. Both of my sons do not have any interest in my field, though the elder one is an Electronics Engineer turned IT professional. Second one is specialized in accounting!
Anyhow, good job there and a tough one too!

Parasuraman: I appreciate your kind words my friend. well, at least you have one son already in the Electronics field. My son loves the play the playstation and actually today I had another case of overheating playstation and he was able to test it out to make sure it was not overheating. That does not mean still he is interested in taking over my work..I hope he is. but he is showing interest to be in my shop and watching what I am doing. have a blessed day
