A Shorted Computer Monitor Repaired and Maintained
This computer monitor belonged to my sister. She asked me a for computer monitor to use it on her desk top about two years ago and it has been working ever since but today she informed that the monitor is not powering on any more.
I took the monitor apart to find what the fault was but with my naked eyes I was not able to see anything.
As I took the main board out and checked the fuse I found out that it was open
and that could mean a lot of things but my next step to check is the main bridge rectifier and guess what?
As expected, it was shorted out and needed a replacement along with the main fuse. I checked for another shorted parts in that area but nothing to be found but later on I found out that I was wrong about it (sad Face).
These were the shorted parts; I replaced them, put everything back together and powered on the monitor through a current limiter and I was so glad that I did because the moment I pushed the power button the light bulb came on very bright and stayed bright indicating a short on board.
After a very long search for that short finally found it and it turns out to be a capacitor in the primary section of the power supply; how did I miss that?
Any way it was found replaced and then powered on the monitor again and this time?
Yes, this time the monitor powered on just fine. I was happy to see the outcome; but when I took it up stairs and installed on my sister’s desk top I could see a display but when I tried to power off the monitor I felt a tiny power discharge thought my finger to come to realize later on that the power cord was faulty (ground wire was faulty).
I replaced the faulty power cord with a new one, tried the monitor and it worked like a charm. I did not tell my sister that it was fixed; I wanted to make it a surprise. When my sister got home from work she called me and was so happy that monitor is up and running.
Mission Accomplished.
