A Simple Fix To A Dead Welding Machine Repaired and Maintained. Zika Z-200
This machine was brought to my shop for repair by a welding technician who wanted it to be fixed as soon as possible.
The machine was already opened by the customer and by the look at it, this is what I saw.
The power supply is lying down on the lower side of body of the machine; I was really surprised the power supply was not shorted out.
I disconnected the AC power input going to the power board, connected these wires to my multi meter and powered on the machine and as seen, the voltage reading is so low which is an indication of either a faulty power switch, cable or power plug or could be all. Let us find out.
For starter, I checked the power cable and it was connected it ok but I did not like the look of it so I changed it to a better connected wires and plug (sorry no photo).
I also checked the power switch and it was faulty so I changed that as well but before connecting the power source to see the outcome I took the power board off for check up and this is what I saw; the varistor was loose and just laying here on board.
That is the location of the loose varistor from the other side of the board.
I cleaned the board, checked the soldering, re soldered back the loose varistor, screwed back the board after and adding an isolation piece between the power board and the body of the machine.
That is the board after the clean up and as seen; the varistor is soldered nicely on the board.
I blew away the rest of the dust and dirt that accumulated on this device and then I powered on the machine and as seen, the welding machine came on and everything seems to be within the specs.
The voltages on the negative and positive terminals of the machine showing voltages within specs and of course the welding test next door passed with high stars.
I called the customer, came to the shop and then he tested the machine himself and was satisfied with the outcome.
Mission accomplished.
