A Treadmill With Shorted Board Repaired and Maintained
A customer brought a treadmill board for repair and told me that the device display showed an E2 error. From experience that is either a bad motor or bad shorted board but most likely a shorted part on that board.
I had to go to his house and take the board off but I was not allowed to take a photo of the machine there.
I brought the board to the shop and took the board of the heat sink for testing and as expected the IGPT was shorted and needed a replacement.
I asked the customer to take the main motor that runs on 180 DC volts to a specialized technician for check up.
The customer called later on that the motor was defective and needed a replacement and that would be a lot cheaper than fixing it.
I de soldered the IGBT (40N60PFD) out of board and replaced it with another one; not the same exact part number but it has the same specs.
Before replacing the part, a cleaned the area from the old dried thermal paste and added fresh one then soldered the part on board attaching to the heat sink with a long screw.
I powered the machine on in my shop and I was able to see 180 DC volts at the output terminals of the board (motor voltage inputs) but that was not the ultimate test because I had to take the board to the customer’s house and install the board making sure that all is well.
The machine worked according to specs and the customer was happy and that happiness was displayed in a generous pay for the work done to revive this machine.
Mission Accomplished.

Fixing threadmills has become an industry on its own. And that is probably why it is still very hard to find service manuals or other info for these machines. So good job indeed!

Well done Waleed.
You mentioned you expected the IGBT to be shorted.... why is that? Is this the most common issue with treadmill mainboards?

Tayo: thanks man. sometimes the motor go bad and when it goes bad the IGBT goes bad with it so it is better to check the motor and the IGBT then install it back to be on the safe side. yes the IGBT goes bad very often. have a blessed day
