About Blue ESR Meter Test Probes

This morning a local buyer of the Blue ESR meter came to my office and told me that he had a problem with the Blue ESR meter. He bought the tester not long ago but in the kitset form. He said that when the meter test on a 2200uf the display shown was “OO” by right it should have about .03 to .05 ESR ohm. When i looked at the test probes, in my heart i already knew that the cause of the problem is in the test probes. Previously i had this similar case too but after the buyer put back the original test probes the meter works perfectly okay.

In the above case, i put back the original cable wires and the result that i got was ………… OKAY. Now the Blue esr meter begins to show 0.3 ESR ohm when tested on a 2200uf E-cap that he brought. I found that he modified the tip of the test probes with another kind of thicker tip and since the body was covered with shrink tube i could not really see what it was internally. No matter what just in case if you don’t like to use the original cables (with alligator clips) then you can always use the test probes from the normal analog meter (just like what i am using now) and make sure also the test probes is not extra long if not the result that you will get will vary!

After that i shown him the Blue RING tester and how it could detect shorts in coils. Guess what? He bought the meter instantly! By the way he is the owner of a company that sell used and new test equipment, mostly digital and analogue oscilloscope. He bought the tester for his technician to use and he  rarely do all the repair work. We continued to chat about electronics and he encouraged me to visit Shenzen China to see all the electronics stuff there. The experienced that he shared to me about electronics in China market was awesome and I told him one day i would surely visit the place.
