Are resistors with 5 colors more accurate?

By on September 11, 2007

Yes, resistors with 5 color bands are more accurate than the 4 color bands. With four color bands there is no way you can get the resistor value like 22.3 ohm, 47.5 kohm, 150.8 kohm. Typical example of four color code resistors are 22 ohm, 47 kohm, 150 k ohm and etc. If you repair Monitor you would know that the feedback circuit of the optoisolator used to have a preset but now all of them had been replaced by 5 coded color band resistor for accuracy. This circuit is a bit more sensitive, if the resistor value out even with a slight difference, it will affect the overall output voltages at the secondary side.
