Backlight Replacements In Two LED TVS
Since I have frequented my visits to my friend’s shop, I started getting involved in some odd works here and then to help him reduce the load. Here are two cases of backlight replacements done by me:
- Panasonic TH-24C400DX :
Opened the back cover, removed the front frame, panel and sheets to access the backlights.
The cover was made of plastic, as you can see from the following picture:
The output of LED driver section was ok. The LED did not light up when the wires were isolated and checked with an LED backlight checker, confirming its failure. Removing the backlight was easy as these were screwed on to the cover. Replaced these with new ones from the stock held there.
Fixed the sheets and panel back and connected the LVDS cable and applied power to get a glow in my eyes when the backlight worked perfectly. Closed the TV after checking it giving a video input.
- Samsung UA32K5100AR :
After opening the back cover and doing the usual tests done as described above, I removed the frame, panel and polarizer sheets. Found that the backlight was of a different type, which I have never handled before. First I thought it was just a strip of edge LED stuck on the reflector and peeled it off. But when the replacement unit was bought, it had the reflector in it and it was a full unit. So, I removed the reflector also from the TV, which was possible by sliding out the three small locking clips that held the unit on the edge.
Then peeled off the cover of double side sticker provided, and placed the unit back on it properly. Unfortunately, I could manage to put back only one clip, as it had only two, one of which broke. So, I placed the clip in the middle, though the unit was already seating properly with the adhesive sticker. Here you can take a look at the snaps that I could manage to take while doing the work. Sorry, I could not cover the entire process as I was in a hurry to finish as many jobs as possible because of high load.
The backlight worked properly upon testing, and I fixed the panel back reversing the fitting process that I did for removing. The TV worked well as you can see from the following picture:
Double satisfaction jumped into the self-adjusting collection bag!

where do you get the original parts from when it comes to LED strips? they seem hard to find. I do not deal a lot with LED lights strips but when I do, parts are hard to find unless I buy fake ( not original) and will burn out the next month even though I replaced all strips. thanks for sharing and have a blessed day

Another good two in one repair article Parasuraman! I hope you have still time left for your impatiently waiting wife at home (lol).
This TV repair made me again aware of something odd that I just noticed recently. That is that most labels do not show any year of manufacturing on them anymore?

My wife is at ease now, especially when my friend has moved out to a faraway place! (LOL)
That is a good observation! Perhaps the year of manufacturing is making sellers' lives tougher, as customers will always ask for the latest batch!

Good job, Parasuraman! Did you check the LED strip to see if one or more of the LED's just needed resoldering?

Yes, that is a routine check-up! I use an LED checker to check each and every LED. Bad soldering causes problems, but are rarely found. Many thanks for your comments and suggestions.
