Battery Eliminator 1.5V To 12V No Power

I just took out my Variable Voltage adaptor for some device testing & I found it is not Powering ON. It was Modified to digital display last time.

For no Power problem I Opened the unit checked Power cord it shows neutral wire is open circuit in molded power cord.

So here confirmed the Power cord is defective.

For replacement I took one Computer power cable from my store & Cut from one side.

Here is the confusion…. when I sliced the cable I found Old & New Power cord’s color code is not matching

How you determine which cable is connected to line, neutral & earthling? Never guess blindly just confirm with Multimeter by testing point to point continuity from three pin plug to the wire end.

In this new wire I confirmed the color code

Green – earthing

RED- Live

Blue – Neutral

Now tested…… unit is back to the life.

In my country it often doesn't really matter what is the live or neutral wire because the flat euro plug can be inserted in two ways anyway. And most devices work no matter what was the neutral or hot live wire. It is just a precaution if you open up a device knowing that the dangerous wire is connected to the power switch first. And to make sure that a lightbulb doesn't get the live wire connection on its larger outside E27 bulbsocket metal.

  Albert,I shared the article because of misguiding Color code of wires in china's cheap equipment's .few days back i received one hot air vaporizer without three pin top, replaced with new top under the impression of color code but as soon as i connect the top to mains line, my premise MCB is tripped.When i checked inside the unit Brown is connected to earth,Green is connected to the line & blue on neutral.where on top assuming normal color code i connected green-earth,Brown-line & Blue on Neutral & this Cause MCB to trip because of Line & earthing interchanged.
