Blur Picture In TV Repair

The complaint of this Panasonic CRT TV was no picture but have sound. No picture can be caused by missing high voltage, low screen voltage (G2), open tube heater, bad CRT Tube and etc.

The first thing I did was to open the cover and adjust the flyback screen knob to see if the display would appear-see the photos below:

flyback adjust

After adjusted the screen voltage, I saw the display but the channel was very blur.

A blur screen can be caused by bad CRT Tube, bad CRT socket and even a bad flyback transformer.

Since I do not have the high voltage probe to check on the focus voltage, I soldered out the CRT socket and see if there is any problem with the socket.

True enough, the CRT socket internal contacts had oxidized causing no connection between the CRT Tube focus pin and the focus voltage from the flyback transformer.

crt socket problem

I replaced with a new CRT socket and powered On the set and the channel number can be seen with no more focus out.

Conclusion- Assuming if the CRT socket is good, the next step I would have to  replace the flyback transformer to test it out. Fortunately in this TV repair, I do not need to replace the flyback transformer. If you want to be good in CRT TV repair you can visit Humphrey’s website HERE.

Great Job! I used to really enjoy doing Crt Direct View & Projection repairs. Here in the US people do not repair them anymore. It's only Led & Lcd board swaps and component repair when possible. I repair mostly appliances now. I really miss the old days.
