Brandnew Musical Tesla Coil Already Defect Within 10 Minutes! But Now Fixed and Working Again!
Recently I was interested in this brandnew Musical Tesla Coil. And it arrived in about 9 days from Poland. As soon it arrived I checked the manual on how to obtain those musical sparks with my over Bluetooth connected computer. But after 10 minutes or so invain trying I came to the conclusion that apparently most Smartphones were not working supporting this Bluetooth musical audio player function. What phone needed was not mentioned in the short manual. But the sparks that it created were nevertheless already quite impressive without any musical modulation.
Until it after those 10 minutes or so invain trying to make sound over Bluetooth no longer worked.
Only the leds still lit up after that, controlled by the left potentiometer for spark speed and the right potentiometer that normally controlled the base tone of the sparks. But now no longer any HV sparks showed. My Honor phone nor my Bluetooth connected computer worked with this device.
So I started a dispute for a full refund on Aliexpress after I had tried to contact the seller. For some unexpected reason I was unable to reach the seller. And to make things worse also Aliexpress said that they had a problem with the shipping company that inhibited them from opening a return action. Which at least would take several days before they could provide a return address.
And about 4 days later they finally replied with the message to return the product. But the only unexpected option they gave was to ship the parcel on my own costs in advance. And those costs afterwards would be refunded to me after they agreed with the state in which the now defect Tesla Coil was received. Which to me sounded like a very bad service in advance with high shipping costs for yours truly! So I replied that this was a bad deal and that I no longer would buy products like these from Aliexpress after this bad after sale service.
In this case I therefore decided to no longer make use of Aliexpress’s bad return policy, and to open up this tesla coil device and see if I could fix this practically instantly defect device.
Above photo shows the board with all smd components after the bottom plate was removed. I started measuring for shorts but only found what looked like a shorted C12 capacitor. But after it was removed it measured fine and the apparently shorted capacitor must just have been one of the Tesla coils. Because without capacitor the board there still measured shorted. And all mosfets measured fine having no shorts either. And I started measuring resistor RT1 which measured 22 ohm. Another resistor with the same value marked RT2 however was gone and an open connection.
Which gave much hope being the culprit here why the high voltage sparks no longer were produced.
In previous photo I therefore replaced the defect RT2 smd resistor with another 1% 1206 size resistor marked 22R0 that had the same value as smd resistor RT1.
Luckily I already had the above shown right smd resistor kit set in stock which fixed the previously dead Tesla coil. And below photo shows the now removed bad original resistor.
Here a last close-up on the smd components below the mosfets. All these parts are cooled with a large Aluminium cooler-block that is mounted on the top side of this board.
I suspect that my parcel previously already was returned by a previous buyer for repair. A repair that non electronic educated buyers can’t do. Why the seller can’t be contacted anymore and why it took so long before Aliexpress came with a return option answer. That is what the box tells me after looking at the label on top of the badly taped box top.
Above photo shows all parts of this Tesla coil that also came with 2 small glass neon lamps and a tiny instruction guide that only mentioned to use a Bluetooth connected phone.
Other now even cheaper Musical Tesla Coils also have an audio cable input port too. With the sadly on my tested Honor smartphone Bluetooth module failing audio play connection as second option.
Although my Musical Tesla Coil now is working again, without ever having worked as Musical coil, I am quite disappointed in the way my still rather expensive device was not immediately accepted as a legit complaint by Aliexpress. And Aliexpress in this example no longer gave the normal full return warranty with free shipping return label. It also took about 4 days before any solving answer was given which is unthinkable. And the question now is how long this device will keep working without any new failure.
So I am thinking to skip my previously worry free product ordering on Aliexpress in favor to other providers like Banggood, Temu, Amazon etc. Who often are also faster and sometimes also cheaper too!
So be warned for the possibility of a bad buyer warranty change on Aliexpress! Especially when the seller can’t be contacted on Aliexpress!

sorry you had to go through that sad to say i have seen and experienced this kind of bad service not just on Ali express...I still order from Ali express but I only use good sellers that I met along the way. glad it is up and running. have a blessed day and thanks for sharing your story and repair.

From now on I check and only buy from sellers who are visible in Aliexpress's message center. This seller did not show in that center for unknown reasons. Even though his advert mentioned the "free returns" option it was not available.
The music over Bluetooth function apparently only works if we have a phone like from Apple (do not know what model?) that can be activated in menu SOUND & HAPTICS and in HEADPHONE SECURITY can be set to LOUD SOUND by selecting the disable setting. So it sadly requires a phone I do not have.

The product is no longer available as a search now only reveals a 404 error page. But the Eurostar Store probably still exists but couldn't be contacted when I tried to return the not working Tesla coil. Which is unexpected and a good sign not to buy there.
