I work at copyshop and we have a Canon MG5450 printer who is used to print on CD and DVD. After 8500 printings, error 5B00 occur that’s mean the waste ink pad is almost full. This is a protection counter to prevent ink leak.

In this case i have to clean or replace the waste ink pad. I chose to clean them. Let’s start the job. Disassembling is very easy: no screws just clips.

After disassembling the lateral, two screws and remove the scanner assembly (be careful at the scanner connections with the motherboard). Lift up the scanner and you will see the waste ink pad.

As you can see in the photo the waste ink pad is almost full. One screw and the pads are removed. After cleaning you must dry them and put it back. Assembling the printer back, but surprise! The error still occurs. The waste ink counter and other information are stored in the EPROM. Now is time to reset the waste ink counter.

First we need to enter in service mode: press and hold the power button, then press for five times resume stop/button and release the power button. Connect the printer to computer and run Canon service tool V 3400, select the region and press waste count reset. After few seconds the counter is reset. Turn the printer off and then on. Now the printer is work again.

    Nice job Mihai
    Great when it all unclips

Just as well it wasnt an Epson as they are an absolute nightmare to repair anything on them - most repair shops here will just tell you to dump the printer as it would cost more to do the job you just did than the cost of the printer - The shop i used to work in would charge £70 100 Euro just to do what you have done!

    Hello, good site.

But can you show or explain how to "After disassembling the lateral, two screws and remove the scanner assembly" ?

Because I can't disassembly the "lateral", it seems stuck at the front and i don't want to break the plastic...

    Thanks
    fff

Entering the service mode on an MG4250 does not work.
Did anyone have any luck with the MG4250?
