Cold Heat Soldering Tool For Easy Repair Work
By Jestine Yong on December 9, 2013
This video “cool heat soldering tool” was recommended by one of my members and this is the first time I’m seeing such a tool. It seems that it is designed for small joint soldering and not for the big joints. It is very convenient and not sure about the durability. If you owned one we would like to hear about your opinion-thanks in advanced!

I've owned several of these devices and each one of them have failed miserably. I wouldn't suggest them to anybody who is serious about electronic repairs.

yes, I bought one about two years ago. it was big and runs on six AA batteries. it is a good tool for consumers but not for the professionals. the soldering tip is too thick and you can not repalce it for any different tip. and the wattage is not enough to sometimes make a prefessional soldering joints. maybe they did some improvement on it, I do not know but the one that I bought is sitting in my tool box for a long time and I only used it once.

I was thinking the same thing, Waleed. The tip is too big.

HI Gopal,
No info on this. If rechargeable batteries is used I guess there will be no problem for it.

on more thing, the reason they call it cold heat is because the moment you turn the soldering iron on, it does got hot but the moment you touch the tip with the solder and the joint, it got hot right away. the moment the iron away from the joints and the solder it got cold right away.

HI Waleed,
This tool is perfect for fast soldering-no need to wait and the tip is replaceable.

Hi Jestine,
Very interesting indeed. It looks like some kind of ultrasonic soldering iron and probably already made in China based on the price
We need to do some research to make sure that the ultrasounds would not damage sensitive components.
Does anybody know about?
Cheers,
Gerald

Hi Jestine,
Here is a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ColdHeat
It is not ultrasonic but also not safe for electronic soldering.
Cheers,
Gerald

Hello
I had two of this. One I bought at a grocery in the US and the other is a gift from my sister. I only used it twice and its not very effective and besides I had a better use of my alkaline batteries. Also if the tip is a little dirty, it does not heat up.

Jestine,
I have one of these Cold Heat soldering tools, I tried to use it twice and it did not get hot enough to solder. The unit does not have enough power for effective desoldering of many board- and chassis-mounted components. I have not used the tool for a long time, in my opinion it was a waste of money for the work I do.

HI Richard,
Thanks for the feedback. Guess the normal solder gun would be better.
