‘DE’ Error Code On Automatic Washing Machine
This LG automatic washing machine was brought to me by first time customer with complaints of washing machine showing “de” on the small lcd screen when switched on and does not work.
I have never work on such machine before and don’t know what de stands for, so i went to Internet to search for lg washing machine codes and what each code stands for, thank God I got it, which stands for ‘ door error’. Since I have no knowledge how to repair this kind of machine, I did search youtube, downloaded some stuff pertaining to DE code.
This machine uses magnet glass switch that is activated by a magnet located at the tip of the top cover. The purpose of this switch is to off the machine if the top cover is open while washing and spinning, so when switch goes bad, control board detect this and make a bleep sound or shows de code. Having gain some know hows from youtube videos, I located where switch sensor is,(broken) solder it out and replaced it with a joint wire since I can’t get a new replacement. I also examined the controller board and noticed there are two dark spots on the thick wax use to seal the components….one is on a resistor which has drop by about 2kohms and other is 8pins ic, however board is still working well. Customer was not willing to have it repair too, since it was still working.
Having done this, fill it with water, programm it to…wash, rinse, spin and switch ON, disc at bottom of spinning drum did roll for a while( about 24 seconds) and stop, but drum didn’t spin which indicated there’s still problems.
If this happens, it means there are some other components that are defective, so I continue troubleshooting and come to discover the gear lever motor was not pulling the lever backwards, to engage the gear box, this I removed and replaced it with a new one.
Having replaced this, switched on washing machine, program it to wash, rinse and spin as before, it started to perform washing function, with smile on my face, thinking it’s done, but alas a cracking sound was coming from underneath the machine, then it switched off by its self, then I did ON it again and scoop to see under the drum, there I noticed that once the lever engages to the gearbox teeth, it makes a loud cracking sound, so I have to replace the gear box also with a new one.
Having replaced the gearbox, I put all functions to test, all started working perfectly.
Then inform customer for collection and he was very happy.
This is the finished repair work.

10 out of 10 for your pursuit of a repair with research and actions. Sadly the cost of replacement parts can quickly make a repair uneconomical. Furthermore, I would be concerned at bypassing a safety feature.

Thanks for your comments and observations, actually cost of repair is about the half price of a new one, and customer still feels satisfied having saved some money if he has to buy a new one.

With a machine giving so much trouble it would be advisable to replace it for a new washing machine.
We wouldn't want such a machine in our absence causing any fire at home. I think best would now be to use this machine while we are closeby watching it while it runs.

Good working strategy; research, study then repair. I hope somebody will always tell someone until everybody knows about the repair of the clothes (including ogbada) washing machine. And go on researching until you master the repair skill.
