Dell 2015hF Monitor Repaired
Stated Fault Symptom: When Power ON the monitor keeps On & Off with DELL Logo. On arrival of this monitor on visual fault inspection I found monitor keeps on switching ON & Off standby light is also blinking in Blue color with Dell Logo on screen.
There is no OSD. So I opened the monitor for visual inspection.
Visual checked all the Circuits seem ok no physical damage or burnt marks.
I took the SMPS Circuit under magnifier glass & I found bunch of Dry solders
Re soldered the entire bad joint and put the monitor on Power.
Now got “OSD” and no more Blinking.
After assembling the Monitor kept it on Burn- in process on my setup for 2 hours. It works without problem.

Good job Yogesh.
Dry solder joints can sometimes be the hardest to find, but the easiest to repair.

Mark,
some time you cannot visualize dry solder under magnifier till you tap on it when equipment is powered ON and it reacts.
Thank you.

It is not often that we can fix a device without having to replace any part. Luckily this was one of them! With the new lead-free solder it will be harder to see those bad solder joints.

Right Albert,
lead free solder is more brittle than leaded hence now a days we found more dry solder problem in new equipment.

I love to do a dry joint resoldering and something you need to be careful of inhalling that smoke of the solder. I made a home made fan that sucks the bad smoke away from me and goes into a filter and that way I am safe of all the chemical stuff going into my body. keep that smoke away from you and have a blessed day

waleed,
Solder Fume is very toxic so we have to take care about our health first,in my work area i have one favorable thing for me that air flow is always in opposite direction so fume is always far from me. but it is safe to keep one fume sucker i will also make one for me.
Thanks!

Sir Yogesh: You did a good job. Some times when we do a job like this I so some shock tests to see if vibration effects the symptom, and like you did I have used a head worn magnifier to see dry or cracked joints. Your are right about the no lead solder, bad stuff it has caused many problems.

Thanks! Lynn Blakely.
It is Bit Difficult job to find dry solders in PCB where SMD components used.

Do you use leaded solder in repairs?

Anwarbhai,
yes 60/40. I think market will get automatically change over when leaded solder is stop to manufacture.
unleaded solder is Brittle & causing Dry solder in short period.
