DTH Remote Repaired for not working
My daughter found this remote is not working properly. On asking symptom she told indicator light is blinking while pressing button but no effect on the TV screen.
As I was busy in some work I told her replace another working battery & check, she opened the remote battery cover.
She came to me with the remote for showing that there is a white sticky liquid inside the remote…
I seen one battery is leaked badly & Battery contacts in remote also corroded.
so I kept my work by the side & took the remote for inspection because I doubt that it might damaged from inside also.
Dismantled Remote, I found the liquid is spilled over the PCB & inside rubber membrane, cleaned everything using IPA & Thinner.
After Cleaning Reassembled the Remote and put new battery & checked for working. It works perfectly.
When battery found leaked in any equipment we have to clean it thoroughly from inside also, because it is form of acid this will spoil the unit if kept as it is for longer time.
Remote is covered in plastic wrapper & ready to use….

Good save! When this happens (in my experience) the battery corrosion simple prevents proper contact of the replacement battery. This corrosion is very hard to clean off and require mechanical remediation more than chemical ones like you used. Lucikly i have never had this leakage actually damage any components on the PCB.
Now she said that the indicator light was blinking when she tried it. Thats vert strange.. not sure how that compromised battery can still provide any power at all.

You are right Tayo, it is difficult to clean the corroded contacts onece the acid gets dry.when i opened the remote i seen still liquid is there that means the cell may have just leaked & still provide the power.

Yes, you are right! It can even burn our skin. It can damage the tracks and leave scars too on the plastic body. Many thanks for sharing!

Everything clear, but why wrapping the plastic foil around the remote?

Albert,
you can not make out this remote is almost approx 13 years old .... still in brand new condition Because of this plastic wrap..i never had this type of Battery leakage problem in this remote... you can see the brand of the cell, May be because of duplicate battery..i replaced this batteries not more than 6 months back.

I would be very careful with using thiner on such boards. from experinece the best thing I have seen and did on cleaning such corrostion is white vinger. on the other side it is a nice sweet thing when we help family memebers. thanks for sharing and have a blessed day

Sir,
Many times I found this type of leakage in wireless Keyboard & Mouse, it badly corrode Copper track & Metal Contacts springs of Cells; which only has to be replaced with a new one.very rare companies use stainless still wire for this type of contacts which gets clean easily using turpentine or patrol.
