Fixed Another Bang And Olufsen Model Biocenter 9000 Without Creeps!
When you read the name of the brand, I am sure many of you who have read my previous articles, might put your hand on the head assuming this could be yet another tedious and time consuming job. But for a change it was simple.
The set was brought by a regular customer from a faraway place stating that the cassette player perhaps needs replacement of belt, as it was not taking load and gets switched off. As handling such a heavy set again would be a risky job with a looming low back pain, waiting for a reason to return, I requested the customer to provide help, which he happily agreed. So, carrying it outside for cleaning and bringing it back, positioning it for ease of various processes of service etc. was handled by him. I realized for the first time that I do need an assistance to be with me not only to provide help, but also as a company, which was found immensely useful!
I tried looking for a service manual, which could not be found. Then with my previous experience and by trial and error method, managed to remove the marked screws on both ends and underneath, upon which the top could be lifted up like the bonnet of a car and kept in place using the rod provided for the purpose. Then unscrewed the board from the top, as the connectors from there to the cassette deck were short. Then removed the mechanism and replaced the belt. (Unfortunately, I forgot to click a snap of the mechanism!) Luckily, I had a long flat belt that was commonly used in Turn Tables and it got fit perfectly. The cassette was loaded and played with the customer listening to it through headphones.
After fixing the board back and closing the set with fixing screws, when we tried, we got burning smell, upon which I switched off and reopened the set to know what went wrong. As it was taking longer time than expected and crossed the lunch time, and further that he had already become a family friend because of very long association, my wife requested me to take him to a good vegetarian hotel for providing food. I forgot to carry my purse and phone due to a turbulent mind, because of which the hotel bill was paid by him, which attracted rebuke from my wife for breaking the hospitality! On our return, I quickly noticed what went wrong!
The board fixed on the top had a fiber washer to avoid it touching the metal frame on the top. That had slipped off. I replaced it in its original position and applied Fevibond. Once again the set was played and found to be working very well, and escaped any damage. After ensuring that all functions such as Aux in, Radio and Tape were working, I re-fixed the set and allowed it to run for some time, while we spent time chit chatting and musings on many subjects. Then he left back after spending around 6-7 hours in my home.
Mission accomplished, with flourished satisfaction getting added to the bag!

Oh, yes! When we focus on something intensely, our brain's full resources are used for that and there will be no free memory to assist us! It happens. That's why the famous Ureka story of Archemedes became very popular. When the age advances the ability of brain to handle multiple tasks at a time diminishes.
Many thanks for your comments!

Excellent job, Parasuraman. You were lucky to have a fairly easy repair on one of these - they can have faults that are a lot more complex!
