Guess Which Component That Had Caused Vibration Sound in Telesonic Speaker?
A customer sent to me this Telesonic subwoofer system with the complaint of vibration sound coming out from the speaker.
Testing with another good speaker have proven that it had nothing to do with the speaker thus the problem is in the electronics.
After removing the cover I could see seven pieces of audio amplifier IC (TDA2030) attached to a large heatsink. There were no other bad components (from visual inspection) and all the connectors were perfectly seated.
I started to check the audio amplifier IC and made comparison and found that one of the amplifier IC resistance was different from the other.
Next, I took out the suspected IC and replaced it with a new IC.

After replacement with a new IC and powered On the sound was perfectly fine again (no more vibration sound).
Conclusion- When you see any IC that has similar part number (especially in a circuit that have two quite similar circuit like the left and right channel of amplifier) then you can use the resistance check. Any big differences in resistance reading indicates that the point you are comparing have problem. You can also perform such test on RGB transistors in CRT TVs and Monitors because the Red, Green and Blue have almost the same circuit and components.
