How To Magnetize The Tip Of Your Screw Driver

By on August 3, 2012

In many repair work, we need to have screw drivers where the tip have the magnetic effect. Yes you can use your fingers to insert the screws into the cover holes but many times the screws will landed the other way round or at the side thus making us have a hard time to tighten the screws.  Placing the screw on the tip will make it easy to slot it in in the small hole especially the covers of electronic equipment.

After sometimes of using the screw driver, the magnetic effect will become weak and it no longer will hold the screw.  In order to get back the magnetic effect, just stroke the shank of the screw driver with a magnet (or any other powerful magnet) in one direction a half-dozen times. The screw driver will pick up enough magnetism to hold your screw. You may also use this method on any screw driver.  See the photo below:

One good source of magnet if you have a broken hard disk of computer. There is a part there that is so powerful to magnetize a screw driver. I don't know what do you call that.

Yes I  have tried that. But mine I use a scrap loud speaker where there is a big magnet at the back. I just rub the screwdriver back and forth and then the screwdriver becomes magnetic again.

      Hi Randy,

Yes in fact the magnet you saw in the photo is the magnet from scrap loud speaker.

      Thanks.

Thank you!!! Scews are attracted to inaccessble places by the Murphy Force. But now my magnetised screw drivers (I used an extremely powerful hard drive magnet) overcome that force.
