HP Probook Laptop Key Not Responding
Received one HP Probook Stating one key of “ letter E ” on the Keyboard is not responding.
On Visual Inspection I found when pressing the key letter E, it is not pressing properly.
While pressing the key it gets press from one side corner but no effect on the screen.
Trying other keys all working OK.
So for deep inspection I removed cap of the key letter E, with plastic retracting mechanism on doubt of damaged Plastic…but seems Ok.
Checked keys Metal base looks OK no physical damage of metal locking notches.
Wait a minute… what is this…….
Not sure about this thing. So took magnifier for close up look. & found metal part with screw like threads.
But how come Screw Here? Now turned back the laptop & exact back I found one screw.
Removed the screw.
& attached back the cap of the key & this time key gets pressed perfectly.
Now question is how this screw is culprit here……if this is the reason then how customer is working from long time on this laptop.
So I phoned to the customer about detail clarification. He told me he opened the laptop for the cleaning because the day before in evening time he called up AC mechanic for the servicing & in that process dust is accumulate on the desk & Laptop & after the servicing of the AC customer opened the laptop for the cleaning. (He is not aware what is logic behind different size of screw used in Laptop) He put back wrong size of the screw which came out from his limit & it obstruct the function of the Key.
So I opened the laptop again & put the screw on their original place & Problem solved.

that is a strange fault but glad it worked out just fine. adding the wrong length of screws can cause alot of damage. I experienced this in the Iphone repair when actually messing up the situation but putting a long screw in a short screw hole and end up damaging the main board and especially the board layer of the phone but I never experienced this in a laptop sitaution. thanks for sharing and have a blessed day

Good thing you didn't have to look far to find the culprit by starting with the key cap first! Because dismantling the laptop would have taken much more time no doubt!

Yes I was thinking wrong screw and that keyboard screw is how the keyboard is affixed to the laptop.

Specially in the laptop, Wrong size screw can easily damage plastic body.
