This symptom mainly occurs because of Screen Voltage missing. In primary visual inspection I found some black patches on the screen Display. Took photograph sent to customer & acknowledge by the customer for the same so that avoid dispute later on.

So it is time for internal inspection….

Opened back flap of RAM HDD area so that I can disconnect some cables, RAM, HDD. Wi-Fi for opening back cover of laptop …on opening I found very dusty inside RAM HDD area.

First I disconnected the Internal Battery connector to avoid any shorting on motherboard & rest of the parts.

Removed RAM I found contacts are oxidized, so cleaned the RAM contacts using Eraser.

RAM contacts oxidized may cause unpredictable symptoms in the laptop so I reattached RAM after cleaning & Battery connector & turned ON the laptop and surprisingly screen is light up with proper display.

Kept laptop under burn in test for whole day with periodically ON & OFF it works fine.

Usually I avoid deep cleaning Laptop because deep cleaning laptop is very risky task internal parts can easily get damaged or sometimes the internal condition is very bad when laptop has been repaired /opened earlier by some unprofessional hands.

I read in many places that using eraser for cleaning the contacts should be followed by cleaning by IPA. Hope you did that too! Many thanks for sharing this article, dear!

Sir, used IPA "after" rubbing with eraser because some eraser it self residue some sticky substance while eraser is not used for long time.

That is probably the most improbable laptop repair I have seen in a while.
Dirty RAM stick causing backlight not to work???
    Inconceivable!

This opens a whole other can of worms next time I get a dead screen show up on my workbench.
Thank you VERY much for sharing this!

    Tayo,
Sometime fault symptoms on laptop is unpredictable like once i found laptop FAN spinning very fast & company Logo Freezes on booting. i cleaned RAM Module thoroughly but no effect, i removed the RAM & checked in another Laptop there is no display so when i put another working RAM Module from working laptop to faulty laptop it works fine.

Very interesting.... is this indicative of power quality or lower tier RAM? I have never heard of anything like this.

        Tayo,
Do not know the exact architecture of this laptop circuit every manufactures having their own design.in some older desktop generation i seen GMCH is getting supply from the RAM power supply section.so may be some missing signal supply to graphics section can cause the fault symptom.

I also once worked on a dead laptop that even had 2 completely shorted DRam modules in their sockets!
And never found out how the owner was able to get his modules so bad.

    Albert,
I think the best approach is to place the circuit board upside down in the casing so that the dust collects towards the base and not on the circuit board.
Most PC cabinets and laptops are designed in such a way that it absorbs moisture as well as dust from the surrounding environment and causes a short in the circuit.

Many years ago I worked in a computer repair centre that was warranty-authorized for most major brands. We repaired everything! Compaq computers in those days would beep twice with a BIOS error on power on when there was a RAM problem. It got so that whenever a computer on the bench beeped twice all of the techs around would chant "Two beeps on a Compaq. Reseat the RAM". It just became standard practice for us to remove and check the pins on the RAM modules before attempting any repairs. I have purchased several "defective" computers from thrift stores and pawn shops that only needed the RAM pulled out and reseated.
Good work figuring this one out. I think this knowledge is going to save you a lot of time in the future.

since the think pad was dusty inside that means the fan is also dusty and I am sure the GBU, CBU needed fresh thermal paste. it is a advisble to check these before giving the device back to the customer. thanks for sharing and have a blessed day

    Of course Waleed,
Changing the thermal paste on the GPU and CPU in old laptops will increase performance and make chips last longer.
