Is It Enough To Have Good Meters?
Of course the more meters you have the better or faster to locate a problem. Now besides meters, having the right schematic diagram and understanding how each section in an equipment work is equally important. Even though you have the best meter in the world but you do not know where to locate the fault or how to find out the problematic section, you will still not be able to solve the problem. For example, if section A problem was cause by section B and your concentration only on section A then you will not find out the problem because the real fault is in section B.
Besides having good meters, you must also know how to accurately test electronic components, perform voltage and scope testing, read schematic and block diagrams, understand how IC’s works (CPU, EEPROM, TTL, Oscillator, Amplifier IC and etc) in order to check the input and output signal, understand the characteristic of each components (to find out which components could breakdown under load)and many more. Once you know the information above, you will have a great advantage of solving lots of electronics problem.

HELLO JESTINE
recently i found a new l c r meter that automaticaly change the range
and give you after few second what is the value of cap or coil or your resistor under test
and also give you the answer after putting your component under test
under 120-1khz this means under load and then give you the answer
l:2mh-1000h c:2000pf-10mf r:20ohmto 10mohm
works with 9 volt battry and also ac/dc
the name is ESCORT LCR METER made of taiwan
as you said to have such meter is not enough but such equipment
is a graet help for repair and save time and energy a lot
if more info is requierd i am at service of all

Hi Beh,
I have that meter too (but manually have to change the setting) and yes it is a great meter to find out the component's fault.

Too bad you cannot buy new from Escort, which has been bought by Agilent. The new LCR meters are now rebadged as Agilent products, with Agilent's high price.
