JBL Cinema SB150 Wireless Bluetooth Soundbar Repaired
Received Sound bar for Intermittent Bluetooth working Problem.
I have connected sound bar on power and turned it ON. It has control panel in this order sequence……
1) Standby Release
2) Source select ( AUX/Optical/Bluetooth)
3) Volume –
4) Volume +
5) Mute
6) Bluetooth Pairing.
In front panel there are some LED Indicator Lights which indicates each working Mode like………
After powering ON & pressing of source Button, LED indication changes to Green and White light but not to Blue. So now it is time to inspect the circuit of the sound BAR. Removed the circuits from back side of the BAR.
It has Two Circuits, Controller & SMPS.
SMPS Board
Cleaned Dust from the PCB. Found some Dry solder On SMPS Circuit and revived the solder.
As per physical inspection I did not found any damaged or burnt parts. After cleaning work I re plugged sound bar on Power But it behave as it is. Now my curiosity in this job is Bluetooth area on controller circuit.
Identified Bluetooth circuit location from Antenna on inspection under the magnifier glass. in this area everything seems Ok but I did not able to trace In and Out because there is no marking on the PCB. Again Cleaned the area again with IPA and re plugged the sound Bar on Power to check if any IC or other parts are getting abnormally hot.
But I did not found any overheating Component. Now I have to check another circuit…… Control Panel Circuit.
On testing operating of some keys I found “+” switch suspected because when I press the “+” switch I can see Blue Light is coming ON and goes OFF instead of increasing the Volume.
So opened the circuit and checked the switch for Continuity, on pressing I found Instead of Continuity it shows some reading.
Removed the “+”switch for testing because some time testing components on PCB may multimeter gives false reading.
Meter is showing around 1.6K ohm reading instead of continuity beep.
So for Curiosity I opened the micro push switch for inspection.
I found Contacts and Metal dome is badly oxidized. it can work perfectly after cleaning the contacts by scrubbing with sharp knife and then cleaning with “IPA” but critical part of switch to relocate the metal square Frame. Because when you put some glue on it glue will get drip down into the entire functional area and switch becomes useless.
So decided to change all the micro switches. After replacing all the switches. Now Sound bar is back to work.
Standby –Amber Light Indicator.
AUX – Green Light Indicator.
AND Bluetooth – Blue light Indicator.

Hi Mr. Panchal, thank you for the detailed information in the article. I am facing an issue with the same model of soundbar. The soundbar works for a couple of minutes, but then the Bluetooth disconnects automatically, and all the indication lights on the soundbar start glowing randomly. I opened the PCB board and found that one of the inductors, marked "150" (L24), appears to have leaked. I'm unsure whether it's leaked or if it's some kind of protective glue. (Also, in the article I can see the same Inductor leaks.) However, it heats up, and the soundbar disconnects and behaves abnormally. Could you please advise on the possible cause of this behavior? Also, where can I purchase this 150-marked inductor, and what is its value so I can check online for the same?

It is always better to replace these microswitches, as it might leak when in operation of the circuit. Multimeter might not always be able to show it. Good job there!

At my friends ICT shop we several years ago had a similar bluetooth soundbar for repair, but it was one from Sony. The 2 bluetooth transmitter modules in that model, one for each audio channel of which only one was defect, could only be replaced by an expensive new upgrade module. Because the older modules used in the defect soundbar weren't available anymore, which then also required us to replace also the matching channel receiver module. Else they apparently would not work according to the Sony dealer. So it became way too expensive for the owner to get the device fixed. Buying a new one was cheaper which is a bad thing when so much value in parts is scrapped by Sony this way!

Albert,
Finding replacement of Bluetooth is not easy because every Bluetooth is having different mode of operation.
sometime we confuse in these day's repair business where you spend time for diagnosis and end result is "repair is expensive".

Anwar Shiekh,
I think pure Silicon Oil is just lubricant having characteristic of Dielectric which is not help to clean the Contacts it works as excellent electrical insulators yes it definitely used to protect from dust & Moisture.

These new radio/speakers are a major pain for me. For one thing boards and all their components are very small and mostly unmarked making it nearly impossible to troubleshoot them without the aid of a microscope, needle probes and a schematics (good luck finding one of those). The other thing is the components are not very robust and little things like slight over-current, over-voltage, drops, dust, liquids, etc can render any of the micro SMDs or buttons inoperable. I guess with the proper tools, training and experience you can overcome these things but its like performing surgery on insects.

Tayo,
Thanks! for your comment.yes if you want to survive in this Repair field you must obtain at-least HD Microscope / Needle Probe for multimeter /Hot air rework station & micro soldering Iron for basic work & learning how to programming IC is also Must.

Sir I also have the same JBL SB 150 cinema. In my soundbar the problem is that the PCB is working but it has been short and current is flowing on all the circuit and switches are also not working. Is there any chance that it can be repaired??
