LCD Projector Repaired
By Jestine Yong on July 26, 2010
A friend of mine sent to me an Epson LCD Projector for repair and the complaint was the AC socket problem. He told me that other repair center quoted him super high price thus he turned to me for help. Opening the LCD projector was quite easy and it consist lots of screws. Since i could not test the LCD projector (due to the broken AC socket), i just directly modified the ac socket with a computer AC cable and turned it on and hope that it will work. Guess what? It worked perfectly fine! If it don’t work then i have to troubleshoot the power supply unit. LCD Projector consist of few major sections and you could see it in the photos below:

I have an infocus lcd projector sitting in my shop for a long long time. the main problem is projector is working and all the voltages are ok in every way but there is no light coming on. I replaced the light( very expensive one) but it will not come for some reason. the only thing I am thinking about right now is, it needs the remote control to work..may be the buttons have a child lock on them and it needs the remote to work. the model number is Infocus LP400

HI Waleed,
Sorry never come across such problem before. It may need the remote control as what you have suggested.

Waleed have you checked the lamp ballast? This is also a common failure in these projectors as well as rear projection type LCD and DLP. I know you said all voltages are good in every way, I am am thinking you are referring to the PSU primary side and secondary voltages, but is the ballast actually producing proper stiking and running voltage for the lamp?

Hi John, thanks for the comment. yes I have checked the Lamp ballast. all is well. I even gave it to a friend of mine who is also an electronic tech and came with the same results. the only way is to use the remote control but so far I can not find a remote control to check it out..if I take the lamp out of the projector, the projector does not turn on..put it back on everything works but the light. I could see the buttons coming on, stand by is on and the fan is on..everything worked but the light. I am almost giving up on it..I appreciate the help and your comment John.

Jestine,
I used to work for an AV company and Ive seen a bunch of Epson 830 and Epson 820 that get cracked solder joints on that AC socket becuase of people constantly plugging in and and unplugging the units for steups.

HITACHI DLP DIGITAL LIGHT PROJECTOR)PICTURE DISPLAY FLIKKER WHEN HEATED:
I had received hitachi DLP projector having complaint picture flikker and colors system change when heated.
first of all, i removed Lamp and set prepare for blower servicing. after that i checked Loose connections and retest but no success.
after that i decided to un- assemble Camera and color wheel in order to service by Lint free cloth.
Precautions: make notes when trouble shoot these type of discrete equipments in order to assemble . makes posible to wear wrist band under off circuit troubleshoot.
After complete service i retest DLP projector again with Video and found that fault has been removed and no display flikker under 2 hours checking.
The main reason of fault was Color Wheel and Camera Glass was dusty and not clear for light signals.
Remarks : problem solved and payment done by customer.
Thanks you

I have a Epson projector S18+.In the mainboard have a connector LMP-TH (2 pins) connect to a small board H550TH-_R1 above the fan. the small board H550TH-_R1, have a "diode" TH30. When I replace the small board the projector work fine, but with the old board show message "hight temp". Know you the function of the board and where I can get the board or the chio "diode"TH30 to replace and repair.
Thanks for your help

Hi Jorge,
You may need to go back to Epson to ask if they sell this kind of board. I'm not sure how does your diode look like as sometimes manufacturers can shorten the part number. For example STTH3002C can also be TH30:
