LG TV Screen Dark

This 32″ lg tv was brought in by a new customer with complaints of tv went dark while watching. On further investigation with flash torchlight, there was faint picture showing. So this is backlight problem.

Having dismantled tv, i notice a technician had once handle the backlight and he did a very bad job.

Having replaced the strips and switch on tv, picture shows brightly, but there was flashing of light on panel screen as if one or two leds are going on and off.

So i checked from tv back chassis’ holes, surprisingly there was no such symptom….meaning all leds are ok.

So what is the problem? so i suspected power board. Removed it and combed through it, then i saw a high voltage blue cap that is connected to vcc of power ic burnt at the primary side. I replace this, assemble tv and switch on tv, what!!! vertical lines cover panel from lift to right, i was confused, cracking my brain what could caused this kind of problem which i have not handle before.

By instinct through help of my God, i decided to check the flexes between t-con and panel…..oh it was bad, so i replaced the two and switch on again….O lala pictures are good with no more vertical lines.

Fixing tv's without having the exact matching spare parts always will be an issue. Especially if those replacement parts can't be found and ordered in acceptable time. In such cases it is a problem when a large tv is opened and is occupying a lot of space on a table or in our living room. So it was a good thing that you had the right replacement flex flatcable at hand.

I do not know why technicians do such a mess when replacing the LED lights on these TV sets. the best way is to replace the whole set and that is safer and neater and looks professional just like you did. thanks for sharing and have a blessed day

You say bad job (on the backlights) .... I say this was an ingenious temporary fix assuming he you don't have the proper replacement parts! I actually never considered something like this but that bcos I live in a place where I have the ability and means to order part I want anywhere in the world. For places where this is not an option the local repair guy has to improvise ... and improvise he did!

Good day fellow colleagues,pls i need someone help to solve one challenge:I Just changed the screen of 32" lg tv model 32LH500D, when it was switch on everything is ok , but there are 21 white spots light on the screen, which indicate are the leds.The leds' domes are not fallen off though.Leds output voltage is 50.38. Tv age 8yrs but use for about 4 yrs.Pls any suggestions

  Perhaps the light diffusers were previously repair with glue that was not appropriate for the application. If the LEDs are shining through the LCD screen there is a problem with light dispersion. Using something like regular superglue (cyanoacrolate) will give similarly bad results. An optically clear uv curable adhesive is best but they are specialized and not readily available at your locally store. If this is the case there is nothing you can do about it. Even attempting to remove the glue will likely damage the LEDs and/or diffusers. Perhaps you can decrease the brighntness so is is not so noticeable?

Waleed.R: The problem with some of them is to maximize profit and some reduce drastically charging price so as to entice customers away from their competing technican and end up doing bad job.

Imoudu, for someone with only three years experience you did an excellent job of troubleshooting on what could have been a show stopper. I am now retired, but I spent my lifetime in electronics equipment repair.I still keep my hands in it when possible. I too ask God to help me do repairs. Jesus has never let me down. Keep-up your spirit for complicated work.
As you asked about another TV white spots light on the screen indicates problem with Diffuser, Domes maybe not original or try it by updating firmware.
