Loading Tray In/Out Problem In ONIX DVD
This DVD Player, Onix Model Grand A, was brought to me by a Driver, who had brought a few other items too in the past. The complaint was that the tray goes and comes out and only after a few such erratic operations; sometimes it goes inside and starts playing. The player was taken previously to some other electronic technician, who promptly collected his charge but the fault remained same. When I took it up after following the Covid Protocol procedures, it played around 6 CDs one after the other. Subsequently, it started creating problems. So, I opened the set and found that it had all the dust collected still inside, an indication that the previous technician was either not bothered about cleaning or never even opened it!
Anyhow, I cleaned the inside thoroughly using brush. Removed the Power Supply board, which had audio amplifier too in the PCB. The mother board was fit at the rear of the tray, partially blocked of view from the top. I dismantled the Tray Mechanism unit too. I observed a lot of dry solder on the power supply board as well as the small boards under the tray, that goes to loading motor and the tray in/out switch, another going to sliding motor and capstan motor. Retouched all these points very well. Then lubricated the connectors using switch cleaning oil.
Removed the tray by gently pressing the locking pins out. Applied silicon grease (similar to petroleum jelly) in the two rods of the eye unit in which the unit slides and on the slots of the tray underneath. Then applied the same on the moving parts that disengages the eye unit pulling it down, when eject (open) is pressed. After all these exercises, carefully inserted the tray back to its slot and pushed it in gently. Used a Pencil Eraser to clean both ends of the Flexible Strip Wire that connects the eye unit to the mother board. Then reconnected the Tray Mechanism to mother board and power supply board and powered on. The tray was not getting locked properly inside, and even after replacing the driver motor belt and cleaning the area, same was repeated. So, the suspicion was on the motor. Replaced the loading motor, upon which the tray went in and locked properly, pulling the eye unit up to enable reading of the DVD. I tried several CDs/DVDs and repeatedly pressed the open/close in between and found no problem. So, switched off and fixed the Tray Unit back to its original place, but placed a post card thin sheet pieces under the front two screws to elevate the mechanism. This enabled proper centering of the tray so that it did not touch anywhere on the sides or top of the front cover, while moving in and out. Fixed the screws of SMPS PCB.
Once again tried running the DVD player for several hours and also pressed open/close for rechecking. Everything was ok. So, put back the top cover and called it a fix, without forgetting to add satisfaction to the collection bag! Here are some pictures, though it does not cover the entire operation. It seems like the previous tech collected his charge without even bother to open the device. Then it came to the right tech to get everything up and running. Good job my friend and thanks for sharing

Another complete and efficiently carried out repair service with additional info for beginners!
I wished my Cyberhome all-region dvd players where this easily fixable too. Sadly the controller board in these special dvd players also contain the video decoder chips that can't be replaced because they no longer are sold or even made.
