Nintendo Switch Joy Stick Drifting Issues Repaired
A teenager brought this part of Nintendo switch joy stick to be repaired; he explained that this side of the device is drifting and needed a quick repair. The drifting issue means the character in the game is moving on its own without anybody touching the joy stick. This is usually a dirt problem in the joy stick itself or needed a new replacement.
He only brought this side without the rest of the device so the best to do right now is cleaning the joy stick. I have not opened one before so I did a lot of search on line to do this process.
The main problem I am facing right now to find a replacement in case the cleaning did not restore the functionality of the joy stick. I am optimistic about it since the device is almost new and I am hoping for the best in this matter.
Only four screws to take out to expose the inside of this device.
So far so good; it does not seems to be a difficult so far.
I took battery housing then the battery exposing more of this joy stick.
Finally I was able to take the joy stick out after disconnecting all the flex cable that associated with it.
Getting to this part was so easy but now I am about to open and see the inside of this joy stick.
There is a metal part on the bottom of this joy stick and when I took that out I was able to see the inside of it which not too bad. I saw a lot of dirt and hair sticking inside.
On the net a few people suggested the cleaning of it but most of them suggested replacing it but since I do not have it available in the shop neither in my area I started cleaning it up hoping for the best outcome.
More hair and dirt was found on this flex cable inside the joy stick. I cleaned it to the best of my ability using cleaning alcohol.
After the cleaning was done, I put everything carefully back together and as seen it was powering on and that is a good sign since this was my first repair attempt.
I called the customer to bring his Nintendo game so I can test it out and he was not able to bring it for some reason and said that he will test it out himself when he gets home.
He picked up the device and later on that day, he called and said that everything is working just fine. I was happy to hear that but for future repair on this kind of devices I decided to order joy sticks replacement and keep them available in the shop.

As long as parts are obtainable these new devices are still serviceable. Good that cleaning of the joystick was now sufficient.
