samsung dvd player repair

The complaint of this Samsung DVD player was no power. As you can see from the photo above, there was no display in the front panel.

Once the cover was opened you can see what is inside the DVD player. It consist of a mainboard, power supply board and the disc tray/lens assembly.

When I checked on the output voltages I found that the output voltages were low and fluctuates. I also did not see any bulged e-caps in the power supply board.

I had to remove the power supply board and concentrate on checking the components. It seems that most of the components were checked to be good. From experience, fluctuating output problem usually were due to bad components in the Optopisolator IC or the TL431 IC. dvd player board

Since both components can’t be accurately check by using a multi-meter, i decided to direct replace the components and retest. See the two photos in the below:

tl431 and pc817 ic

Once the power was turned On, i could see the front panel display and no more power fluctuation problem. If you want to repair DVD player you can check out Humphrey’s ebook on DVD player repair HERE. Good Work! The quick trouble shooting you could do, exposes your expertise in the field, especially in an SMPS circuit. Like an experienced doctor, who diagnoses a disease on his first look, you found the root cause and rectified! Good Job! Please keep it up!

Thanks, Suranga. I would use my analog VOM/ with 10K to check the optocouplers. But direct replacing like you did would be quicker.
