No Radio Pick Up Solved In PHILIPS 2-In-1 Model 15DR437/00
This was brought to me with the complaint that there was no radio pick-up. The cassette side was not being used and need not be rectified was the instruction from him. When I applied power in front of the customer, it was getting on with no radio output; i.e., amp side was working and the hissing noise was also heard on changing the bands.
I opened the set and cleaned it thoroughly. Then dismantled it. Checked and marked the AC output in secondary for future service by anyone. It was reading 11.72V without any load.
The condition of the capacitors aroused my thrill to replace all of them:
I replaced all the electrolytic capacitors on both the boards. Then retouched every solder point, cleaned the boards thoroughly using IPA. The TRA (Telescopic Rod Antenna) was broken and in bad shape. I replaced it too. Then lubricated all the controls and switches using Armstrong Switch Cleaning Oil.
After that, when I interconnected the boards and speakers and applied power, it was working very well. The Radio was superb and it worked very well on all bands. I allowed it to run for several hours before putting the boards back and closing the back cover. I used the Radio tuning it to my favorite stations and listened to the powerful and wonderful voice emanating from it.
Good quality sound output was experienced. It was using a TDA2822 as its power amp, which is a good one, an 8 PIN IC needing very few external components. Mission accomplished easily and resultant satisfaction got collected to the bag!

A tedious cleaning and cap replacing job! I guess that out of aged time perspective you just decided to replace all of them like you always do without measuring all of them.
Let us hope that FM Radio stations still exist in the near future because DAB radio will render all our old FM receivers to useless devices by then.
