Panasonic Hi-Fi With Error F61 Repaired

Customer sent to me this Panasonic Hi-Fi with the complaint of F61 Error. Looking at the error code, it means serious problem and there must be component failure. The problem usually is not related to dry joints, loose contact, broken circuit trace and etc. For your information, I have actually repaired quite a number of Panasonic Hi-fi with error F61 but not from the same model.

The common problem with error F61 regardless what model usually fall into either the STK IC or the sound IC have problem. In the photo below, number 1 is the STK IC (STK470-090) and number 2 is the Sound IC RSN312 and both were located in the Main Amplifier PCB.

Since I have the stock for STK470-090 IC, I replaced it first and retest. If it doesn’t work I will then replace the sound IC RSN-312.

Before that, I had to clean up the PCB area.

On my first try, the error F61 was gone and all the Hi-Fi functions came back normally! Look at the photo below:

Conclusion- Even though Panasonic came out with many model of Hi-Fi system, error F61 will usually pointed to failure component in the main amplifier PCB. Assuming if with the replacement of STK IC and the Sound IC did not solve the problem, I will then perform voltage check or even component’s testing on that particular area. I hope this repair article is useful to those who are involve in Hi-fi system repair.
