PC Speaker Interference Fix
I have an old pair of speakers that I use sometimes to test MP3 players, laptops and PC’s.
The problem is these speakers pick up a lot of radio frequency interference. You will hear everything from amateur radio to ambulance EMS. They are poorly made and not shielded very well.
To fix this problem I decided to use
some ferrite core RFI noise suppressor cable clips.
Some of these I purchased and some I salvaged from old computer monitor cables.
In the picture above is what I used.
The zip ties help to hold the ferrite cores in place so they do not slide down the cable. I placed one on each speaker. This fix worked I have not had any more issues with RFI interference.

If I hadn't read about this here I would say HOGWASH!
But good idea using the ferrite cores. I often seen them used (and abused) on electronics for seemingly no good reason at all. Im a believer now

This is the second time I had this happen. That is why I buy better quality name brand speakers now. The ones shown in this article I only use for when I need to test something real quick that I am working on.

Fixing RF interference problems can be very tricky. Lucky here an easy fix solved the issue.
In the 50's of the previous century mopeds didn't have decent moped ignition suppression yet. In those days the high voltage sparks caused interference issues on all television sets when they drove by. The sparks were picked up in the antenna's and interfered on the AM transmitted video signals. Soon after that regulation came in effect to make RF suppression obligatory on all moped motors. Which solved the problem.

Some of it has to do with where I live. Two blocks behind me there is a house with an amateur radio antenna in the back yard. Another three blocks away is an ambulance station. This is the second time this has happen to me. I had another pair of poor quality speakers that picked up the sparks from my gas stoves igniter. The speakers would make a clicking sound. My Logitech and Magnavox work great without any interference.
