This 32″ sony lcd tv was brought my a customer with  complaints of tv showing white pictures, she has being telling me this over a year, but no money yet, so brought it finally.

First, I plug tv plug to a/c wall socket and power ON tv, amazingly tv showed good colour picture, left tv to run for 3 hrs without any problems. So I thought it fit to  have a look at t-con and main boards.

So remove back cover, remove screen metal cover of t-con, check on voltages which are all ok, then move on to scrutinise mainboard, check on tuner circuit, for there is no audio from it but there is good picture,I could not figure  any thing from it. So I decided to check on esr of all small aluminium e-caps on the mainboard. There were many of these e-caps on both sides of  this board.Well I took my time to check on all ,both sides. Not to my surprise finding many are  off their esr limit values, while some are showing 0 value.

So I did remove only those that were esr off balance and replaced them with  normal hole through e- caps, you have to be technical in doing this.

Having done this, when I wanted to return the  back cover, I realised back cover will put pressure on those caps I did soldered vertically, I didn’t realise this when I was soldering though,  so what I did was to cut open the areas where these caps are on the back cover, then back cover can now be replaced without damage to caps, see picture below.

Having done this I tested the tv for about 5 hours on dvd player, without any picture problem. For the tuner having no audio,I could not get replacement, so inform customer and she said it’s not needed.

The portion I cut open on back cover to give space for vertically soldered caps, I cover these portions with back plastic covers raising them up a little so as not to touch caps. This repair is more of maintenance work. This the finished repair work.

Good work, dear Imoudu! What you did on the back cover might not be acceptable to most of the customers, though this is likely to go unnoticed. Anyhow, you had no other choice!

Good job on the repair but cutting open the back of the tv to fit the capacitors not recommended. I am sure there is another way to fit them in without damaging the tv cover. Have a blessed day

You did well not having the right aluminium Polymer-zylindric-Al-e-caps bij replacing them by common good e-caps. But I wonder still not having audio in the tuner if you also could have checked the inside circuit of that tuner?

Great, great fix, but it would have been nice to use capacitors matching the originals and avoid cutting the back panel.

Why not just buy the correct capacitors? I would not be impressed if someone did that to my TV!

Yes you are right sir,I have no option since we can't get the original cap and fixing some of caps horizontally may cause bridging with other components around. Thanks sir

Those caps are not available in my state, and it's absolutely impossible to buy things online across the continents from online retailer like aliexpress, eBay etc.Infact it's extremely expensive and customers can't bear that expense.l suppose understand my unacceptable short coming.
