Repairing BenQ 17″ LCD Monitor
By Jestine Yong on January 31, 2008
I came across a common fault problem in BenQ 17″ LCD Monitor. The problem is have power but no display. Once you has opened the LCD cover, check the pico fuse for open circuit (very common), the push pull transistors C5707 for short circuit and the Buck royer circuit p-channel fet FQU11P06 also for short circuit too. For your information, if you can’t get the FQU11p06 you can always use FU9024N as a replacement. Resolder all the high voltage transformer pins and replace the components above and I’m sure you will bring back the life of this BenQ 17″ LCD Monitor.
You may go to this fairchild semiconductor website to download the spec of the FQU11P06 P-channel FET.

Hi Jestine,
I have the same LCD monitor as the picture you have shown, the Benq FP731. I would like some advice on opening the monitor. I have removed all the screws at the back (5 + 2 for the base). How should I go about prying open the monitor after that?
My problem is that the AC IN port has become a little loose. This causes the power connection to become disconnected sometimes. Occasionally, jiggling the power cord at the port fixes the problem. So I want to open it up to see if can be secured better.
Thanks!

HI Yizhe,
Try peel off the cover from the bottom with a flat metal. Once opened, then peel the side cover.

HI Eriel,
Thanks. You may need to make sure that the output voltages are good and stable and no bulged caps on the power supply side. If the Mainboard is receiving good voltages then suspect either the eeprom or the MCU have problem. Check also the push button as sometimes a stuck push button (not only the power button) could cause this intermittent fault.

Hello.
Thank you for this site. I need your help. I'm reparing my Q7C4, because backlight is
shutting down after few minutes of work. First I've changed C708, it was swollen.
After this action monitor was working well during one week, then the same problems
have been appeared again. I've changed IC801, Q805, Q812, Q808, Q809, Q815, Q816. Also I've changed Q811 with 2N3906 (MMBT3906 was broken). But the problems didn't go. When I turn on monitor, backlight shines, but Q805 and Q812 become very hot and after few minutes of work backlight turns off again.
Can you help me what are the problems and
what should I check. Thanks a lot!

HI Sergery,
Have you check the backlight as a bad backlight may cause this problem too. Check also for high voltage transformer dry joint. Make sure there is still supply voltage to the inverter ic after the unit had shutdown.

HI Jose,
When it can't turn on that time is there still output voltage supplies from the SMPS? If no then you may have a power supply problem. It could be dry joints, bad caps, bad resistors and etc. If it has output voltages and you can't turn it on then suspect the mainboard problem.

Hi, Mr. Yong
I have a second-hand 17" lcd screen.
It's normal while I'm using it. The problem is after I shutdown the windows, the screen turns to be White although I tried to press the power button. The screen just absolutely turns off after I unpluged the power cord and then plug in again.
Can you help me to point out its problem?
Thank you in advanced.

February 25, 2010 at 8:43 pm
HI Nguyen,
It seems like either the mainboard (MCU) or the inverter board have problem because when you already shutdown the Windows by right the MCU in the mainboard should stop sending On signal to the inverter board. If the On signal present at the inverter ic then the backlight will turn on and cause white screen. Chances is high the MCU program may have been corrupted. Since you still can see the picture, i guess you continue to use it because it is not easy to program the MCU.

Hi all
I have got 2 x BENQ Lcd screens that went dead at the same time with same fault.
Mode: Q9T4 19 INCH ,
Front light changes from orange to green when pc powers up i suppose its another backlight issue?
Best regards

March 22, 2010 at 4:41 am
Hi Rabih,
Not really the backlight problem. First, is the output voltages from the SMPS good and stable? You said it went dead-is it no power, no display or the display appear for a while and shutdown?

I dis mentel every board and connnection. then put is back to gether.
It work fine for 2 day and then. their is no picture. power goes on
some line you can see but no picture. now you say backlight may be problame is it possible to repair or replace? their are two small 1''by 10'' long pcb board is connected to screen from the top that is backlight?
what you thought
admin
April 4, 2010 at 2:01 am
HI Naresh,
After 2 days? Well it seems it could be dry joints problem. Try gently knock on the board using the plastic handle of the screw driver to see if it will shut down again or not. As for the backlight, the best is to compare/replace with a working one to see which of the backlight have problem.
Sometimes a weak backlight may produce intermittent flickering problem. This flickering problem could cause the monitor to shut down.

i found power supply primary voltag is ok but not voltage for secodry side i how
solve my problm
plz. urgent

Hi Paresh,
If there is no secondary output voltages at all then you may need to check all components in the primary side and you may need to replace the power ic and retest.

Another common fault which BENQ do not want to know about is that the fluro's go open and short. This closes them down. Ebay for replacement Fluro's but unable to source whole fitting. We have many her with this issue.

Damn it! I just tore the fuse out thinking it was the fuse. I should have searched this site first. Now I have to find a soldering gun to fix the fuse holders. I knew I seen something similar about these bulging transistors (C707 and C708). Seen these before in Windows Me computers.

Hi Guru,
If there is no supply voltage to the inverter ic then suspect a bad mainboard especially the MCU.
