Restored Yet Another More Than 20 Years Old ONKYO CD Player Model DX-C909
This was yet another Onkyo CD Player brought to me by the same friend who brought another model DX-C330, about which I submitted my report earlier. This also was lying unused for a very long time and there was no movement inside when switched on. I opened the cover and studied the inside constructions of this device. This also was more or less like the other one. The PCB fit on top had to be removed, along with the back cover to further remove the arm. The assembly was so closely fit that I had to really struggle to view the motors and belts inside.
Even after removing the PCB from the top, unscrewing the centre holding arm, the tray could not be taken out at all. So, I just kept the tray lifted to a safe position and struggled to take a few snaps to show you all. Unfortunately, the snaps were not clear enough as camera light could not reach the spot.
Like the previous case, the belts were rigid at the place where it was around the motor. It had become hard and lost its elasticity. I replaced all the three belts after combing my stock and refit the tray and rest of the things back how it was, after cleaning the eye unit using cottong swab.
Then powered the unit and found that it was perfectly well on all six positions.
I connected the output to an external amplifier and checked all CDs one by one. I had also pressed the open/close button several times so as to ensure that the grease got loosened. Everything was working very well and sound output was also good.
Mission accomplished with satisfaction and new experience getting collected.
