Those of you who have not read my previous article published in April, 2021 may please read it before reading this article, as I am not repeating many of the images already provided there, and will focus only on the problem and rectification done this time.

This time (October, 2023), the set was brought with the complaint that they heard a loud noise and the set went dead thereafter. With my previous experience of losing broken part from such bursts, I opened the set carefully and shook off the broken top portion of the SMD switching IC.

Kept the broken piece in place on top of the IC and read the number as FAN7602. I noticed that the fuse was blown, Mosfet was short and a 100 Ohm and a 2.2 Ohm resistors were open.

I removed the broken IC and open resistors. Then looked for any more shorted or open components both in the primary and secondary and could not find any. The Ring Test showed healthy. Then, connected a three wire module (about which I have already covered in many articles before and not repeating it here) and found the output ok.

Got replacement of the switching IC and after soldering it, retouched the board thoroughly with fresh solder. Replaced the Mosfet and open resistors. Then connected 12V 25W bulb and tested it to find it working very well.

So, fit the SMPS board back and allowed the TV to run for several hours before calling the customer to come and pick it up.

Mission accomplished with satisfaction collected to the bag.

I suppose that normally devices do not reach the revisit stage at repair shops.
Because by that time the owner usually would have discarded his set preventing another too expensive repair.
Luckily that is never the case when such a device needs another repair from you!

Here in India, there still is a good percentage of people who would like to have the defective set repaired and restored. Mainly because, the users get attached to it and do not want to part with it unless it reaches the stage. But there many, who would opt for a replacement. Anyhow, it is good that we do get sets for repair. Many thanks for your expert comments!

Many thanks for your wonderful encouraging comments! Knowledge is something that grows within sprouting new branches, whenever we impart it to others. I have experienced that new ideas and short cut methods form and hitherto unknown working principles emerge from within, whenever we sincerely write about it and/or teach about it (like our Great Jestine Yong). The more we hide what we know from others and confine to selfish means, the worser will we become.
