This belonged to the lady who helps us clean the house and compound and provides other aids to my wife. She brought this radio tied up with rubber bands and in a bad shape, with the complaint that it was intermittent. I removed the rubber bands and released the radio from the bondage and opened it. There were no screws as all the lugs had broken.

The Ferrite Road antenna was just hanging on its connections! But the radio was still working!!!!!

how to fix Philips radio

My first duty was fixing a new TRA for which I increased the hole on the rear cover and inserted it in place and fixed it with a screw and soldered the antenna wire to a washer.

Fixed the Ferrite antenna in place with cable ties and applied Fevibond (a type of rubberized gum) and retouched the boards with fresh solder and cleaned it thoroughly.

Cleaned and lubricated the band switch, internal/external power supply switch and volume control. Replaced the mains cord as it was having intermittent contact problems. The Radio was working so well that I could not believe myself how it survived in spite of all the damages suffered. Then fixed one lug with superglue and inserted pins with soldering iron for standing properly to hold a screw.

Then fixed that screw and used strong paper tapes to hold the covers together without any vibration when the speaker works. I was happy to have been able to restore the radio to an acceptable standard removing all these rubber band sacred threads! (LOL) Double satisfaction found its way to the collection bag!
