Salvaging The Hard Disk Parts?

Here is a subscriber that shared with me about the usage of some of the parts in hard disk and here is the email:

“Hi Jestine,
Your defective hard drives have discs that are coated with Platinum, a very expensive metal, & they can be recycled & the platinum recovered. You can do this yourself or sell it to a company. To reclaim the platinum yourself, just soak the disc in a strong base (sodium hydroxide), or a strong acid (sulfuric or mureatic-HCL). If possible, save the hydrogen gas that this generates for future use!
The aluminum base metal will dissolve, leaving the platinum. Strong bases & acids require much safety precautions when they are used in this way. The resulting aluminum hydroxide, chloride, or sulfate are also recyclable for money! You probably already knew all this, but, just in case…..well.

Best to you,
Harry W.

This could be part of the reason many recycle companies are willing to pay you to get those bad Hard disk.
