Samsung Vacuum Cleaner Repaired
The problem of this vacuum cleaner was intermittent problem. Sometimes the motor could work and sometimes don’t. It consists of only one circuit board and there were not many components on it.
Among all the components that I have checked (after turning off the vacuum cleaner) I found the TRIAC was the hottest. This is why the Samsung company installed a big heat sink to keep the TRIAC cool (to dissipate heat).
There were no dry joints in the circuit board so the Triac was my first suspect.
Note: Triacs actually works more or less like SCRs and acts like switches in the AC circuits and let currents goes in any two directions.
I asked myself this question “Could this Triac gives intermittent problem after serving for 5 to 7 years?”
Since the problem was intermittent I directly replace the TRIAC and retest. Guess what? The result was amazing and no longer has shutting down problem. This means the Triac was breaking down when under load. If the problem still persists the next component that I want to check/direct replace would be the DIAC.
Note: A good Diac should show no reading when under x 10 K ohm test either way. For more information you can check on the link below:

Hope this article is useful to the owner of this kind of vacuum cleaner .

Thanks for the article.
Yes i have seen sometimes some components may show good reading in a testing meter ,but under load it fails after operating the equipment for some time.

VENU:yes that is why i replaced the suspected TRIAC with a good one directly because meters can not read these kind of components correctly and thanks for comment

Good job Beh. Thanks for the article. I wonder why they call the pins A1 & A2 when books call them MT(main terminal)1 & MT2?

ST makes that Triac. Maybe they are doing it because it's easier and only 1 letter instead of 2.

As long as i know ST is MALESIAN COMPANY, and yes one letter code
consume less ink than 2 letter codes and or as i told before they do not care about what is written in the standard books like 1000s
smd parts that does not obey any standard coding formula and it is a real problem for us to verify which is which in the repair time.
have nice day in DFW

Hi Beh,
This is a good article. Ofcourse triacs failure are very common. Even I have replaced so many triacs in stitches used for light dimming. The same part no. of triac fails in these switches too. Anyway always your articles are very informative ones.

Hi.i'm new in electronics. For me,it is a hobby repairing all kind of things thrown away by others. Now , our Samsung Sc4590 vacuum cleaner has to be repaired. It has variable power control on the handle of it, and the electronic board is very similar to the one posted by you, except that it has one more plug, for the two wires from the variable power control switch. The problem is that the motor is still running (slower constant rotation) after turning it off from the switch.Which part could be faulty? The variable switch, the electronic board or the motor? Hi, I got my vacuum cleaner no longer working today. It was shut down 3 min after while cleaning. I have Samsung as well with max 2000Watt power and it is a bit newer, in fact the control board and the curcuit and all the components are almost the same as here. I dismantled everything for making at least proper Visual check and checked the motor first. I thought it was starter's windings burned due the max power 2kw set on the outlet switch of variable resistor, but then it should have smelled burn and there wasn't even a smell or burning damages after the visual check of the motor, so I suspected the control board and 330n K capacitor or Triac, since the motor doesnt even run when you switch it on. I have no instruments in here to check it cause Im on holidays at my parents house. My question is could it be Capacitor? Now I took the control board in order to draw the control circuit but it gets mess and things are confusing even more. It would be cool if you could darw the circuit of this control board and share. I would be very thankful

Hi,
I have the same board and i need help. My vacuum starts only with potentiometer on maxim position. I changed the diac and triac and it does the same thing. I checked the potentiometer and it looks odd...530K in all positions but not on maxim. Can you help me find a new one? I don't knew what value to buy....

Hi, Vasile. Did you manage to replace the potentiometer and have the vacuum cleaner repaired? If yes, what was model you replaced it with? I don't have the same vacuum model, but a similar one, VCDC15SV and the problem is the same: the vacuum cleaner starts only when the potentiometer is on medium to maximum position. Thanks!
