This monitor was brought to me with the complaint that it developed some type of a white patch on the left side and I was asked whether something could be done to rectify. Though I knew it could only be due to some damage to the COF, I accepted the job as I was curious to know the reasons for this.

I opened the set, which had accumulated such dust that one could dip the finger deep! I cleaned the front panel, boards and the back cover thoroughly and brought it on my service table to start my investigation. Then removed the metal frame of the panel to check whether there were any visible damages:

On a careful scrutiny of the COF, a black spot was noticed by my techie friend, to whom I had sent the snaps to seek any possible remedy:

Evidently, the liquid seepage has caused a partial short of the COF and two tracks had arced forming the black mark.

I was then asked to cut the burnt lines and see, which I did.

Since the mark was under the COF, I had to take care that adjacent tracks were not affected and I cut the two tracks that were shorted. But, unfortunately, the result remained the same:

As it was proved beyond doubt that the panel has suffered a short inside, nothing could be done further on this monitor, upon which I removed the scalar board and other boards along with the case and preserved it for any future use and recommended the monitor be moved to the scrap yard. Very unfortunate! Satisfaction is standing at the entrance gate hesitatingly awaiting a nod from the readers to move in or not!

I gained good experience of a different kind and I was satisfied that I did what best one could do in such circumstances. A replacement of the panel was not available and even if we fetch it, the cost would be equal or more than the price of a new monitor.

Yes, since I have the habit of returning the defective parts to the customer, I have only very few lying around in my house. Many thanks, dear friend!

For me a good reason to stop trying to repair those easily ripped and damaged COF connections on LCD panels.
I've seen foreign adverts from new available tv sets in which the advertising ladies climb on them without any harming. And even hammer on them without even damaging the very large panels in those new televisions.
Maybe we therefore better wait before buying any of the present older weak panels?

Many are advertisement gimmicks and they have such freedom allowed by the law! Yes, let us wait for such panels in the future, though realizing that we would become jobless! Many thanks, dear Albert!

COF Bonding of such monitors is not recommended because of two reasons: (1) Matching COF not available in the market (2) The cost of bonding is prohibitively high to such an extent that new monitor might cost less than that. Thanks for your comments and input!
