Studio lighting equipment repaired. Model: Elinchrom D-Lite 4 it.
A photographer brought this equipment to my shop and told me that it was working fine till someone dropped it on the floor and broke it. It was a studio light/flash. When the photographer hits the camera button, it emits light from the camera giving a signal to this equipment to respond with a flash giving more bright light to brighten up the photo.
I took the cover off and right away, I could see broken and burnt parts. You can see the burnt bulged capacitor in the photo.
A shorted power IC (TNY 264NG) is seen as well. That was the only things I could see but later on, I found a shorted diode on the same line as this power IC.
I replaced the capacitor, 22uf/350 volts. It was not easy to find the power IC but finally I found it and replaced it. I also replaced the shorted SMD diode. The fuse was also open but did not replace it, instead I put a light bulb to make sure there were no shorted components left on board. I powered up the machine and the light came on indicating a working light.
I replaced the fuse and power up the machine and it came on for a few seconds then it shut down. I was shocked to see that happen because I was expecting it to work but it did not. Later on I realized there was a part missing in this light. The customer told me that he sent it to someone who opened it and tried to fix it but found it a hopeless case since there were a lot of parts blown.
The missing part was the fan. It was a five volts fan. Very tiny and as you can see it in the photo it was badly broken.
I could not find a fan that small to replace the broken one. Instead, I found one smaller that usually comes in laptop computers. I replaced it and power up the machine and the light worked fine.
The photographer came and brought his camera with him. He took a shot with it and immediately this machine responded with a light. The photographer was so happy to see that. I was too.

in my country we do not order that much. usually we find it in the stores. sometimes we do not find the part that I am looking for, so I check with other tech. who actually worked on this kind of machine. I rememeber one time that I ordered an IC from china and that was it. 85 percent we find things in store. i hope this answeres your question..
