The Feeling Is Different
Troubleshooting and be able to find the bad components using your favorite meter will give a different feel as compare when you just directly and replace the components and the problem solved. Let's take this as an example- you do not have a capacitor tester and what you do is to remove all the caps (probably 10 of them) and replace with new caps- finally the equipment works. In another scenario, you take out your capacitor tester and check the 10 caps one by one and found one of the caps have problem. Both methods solved the problem but the real satisafaction is when you could locate the bad cap. This is the meaning of the feeling I'm talking about.
Similarly, when you troubleshoot a computer CPU problem and what you do is to replace the card. Yes it works. You will get even better satisfaction if you could find out the fault in that card by troubleshooting the card. It could be a shorted cap, bad crystal or even bad ic. In fact you can share this kind of story to your friend telling them how you are able to locate the bad component down to component level instead of just plainly replacing the card. The feeling is just different!

Hi Jestine,
Very true indeed. Before I assembled an ESR meter and a FBT tester I used to spend a lot of time on such problems. This time its just a matter of minutes.I prefer troubleshooting to merely replacing components at random.
