The Meaning Of Reset In Power IC

By on March 29, 2010

power ic

There is usually a reset latch in power IC. If there is over/under voltage or current the power IC will shutdown to protect itself. Reset in this case means you have to turn off and then turn the power On again for the power IC to work. However, if there is still problem in the primary or secondary side of the switch mode power supply, the power supply will still not function even though you have reset it (turn off/ turn on power). Without this fault protection latch, i guess many power ICs will be blown by a simple problem like a shorted diode/zener diode/tranasistors or a even shorted secondary diode. Thanks to the power IC designers for this brilliant work.

    HI Banjamin,

Different manufacturers produce different types of board. They have their own reasons of not marking it and i do not know why they don't want to put in the board location. I came across board that they removed/scratch off the semiconductor part number so that if the equipment have problem, user ot the technicians have no choice other than to send it back to the supplier.
