This Toshiba laptop was brought to me and the complaint was it started working more and more slow when you switched it on when the time was going by. Finally it froze completely.

I could not read the model because label of the bottom side was completely erased.

The device was disarmed step by step. Some photos are shown below.

One of the first things one must do in cases like this one is to check the state of the fan and its heat-sink. The owner told me that in this laptop had never been performed a Preventive Maintenance. Therefore look at the images shown below.

As you can see there were many hints of dust, and the fan was dirty too. The hints were eliminated by means of a brush and the Electric Duster. The fan was cleaned and lubricated.

When all the system was armed, the final result was satisfactory 100%. Other equipment saved from the dump.

Good Job! Simple but a good example! Yes, indeed the cooling fan can fool many, many times! I have done a thorough cleaning of the cooling fan of the processor in my desk top computer.

Thanks Humberto. Indeed mostly the parts that are cooled by a fan are the components that create problems. Like the Video chip and or the Video memory chips around it. Some laptops use the Memory modules for the Video ram too but mostly the Video chip has its own memory chips and often on both sides of the Motherboard. The customer is lucky his parts didn't get bga solder problems too. Why this slowing down of the cpu speed is also a good protection when it gets overheated. Sometimes new Bios updates also can fix old too slow running Fan problems when the Manufacturer has noticed that there was a serious cooling problem temperature wise. And that's why running a good burn-in test program that operates the cpu to a 100% occupied state that generates the most heat also is a good check afterwards if it will run without problems under normal conditions. Have a very good 2016 year Humberto ! And the same goes to all repair engineers and electronics enthousiasts on Jestines terrific blog!
