Track Cutting Solved A No Display Problem In EGO LED TV E-3211

led tv repair

This TV was brought to me with the complaint that there was no display. After opening and cleaning the inside, I checked the voltages and found these to be ok. Even the voltages to the Scaler Board were ok. But output from the following IC was totally absent. When switched on, it just comes as a flash and the IC goes to protection mode. There were no shorts of caps in the board when checked.

Consultations with my techie friends confirmed that there were some shorts inside the panel.

Following is the picture of the scaler board showing the CKV lines.

I was advised to cut two lines on any side of the board and see. If the IC does not come out of protection, the other side was to be cut. Once the Voltages come properly, the other side tracks were to be rejoined, as the culprits were on the side which was cut last.

After rejoining the other side, when I applied power the display came and the picture was of good clarity.

I allowed the TV to run for several hours before I closed the back cover and kept it ready for delivery to the customer.

Following is a close picture of a thin line that would come, because of the track cut, which anyhow does not affect proper viewing.

According to my friends, the single cof boards such as these do not have long life and the panel might go bad again. I kept the customer informed of the true status before giving delivery.

Anyhow, satisfaction did not find any excuse not to jump into the collection bag! But let me be honest, I have no thrill in doing such service work!

Well done Parasuraman! One faulty line, seen only in high lighted schenes, is not big deal (to me, at least, although I understand your honest feeling about the imperfect repair)... In similar cases, we simply do what we can. No miracles included in our performance. The point is you saved the set (and hopefully the client saw it in this way)...

A good try my friend. I learned about "Bypass and cutting modifications" methods from one of Kent Liew's e- book, however he stated in it that if such method is applied, the picture quality cannot be the same again. In the light of this,I never bother myself applying such method, I would rather replace the scalar or t-con board for better customer satisfaction.
Moreover I wonder how long such tv repaired with cutting method would last!!. All the same thanks for sharing.

Yes, the life after this cutting remains to be seen. But in my experience, it lasts for at-least an year or more. Sometimes it works without failing! It is a calculated risk!

    Sir,
My question is if cutting a path could solve the problem then why is it not removed by the manufacturer himself so that the problem will not come atall.

Cutting affects the resolution, dear. But normal view will not be affected and usually customers do not bother too! Many thanks!

Now a days COF replacement is done in many places.
CKV Line section in LED TV is most common problem & Most challenging work is to rejoin those 8 lines & we can't do without Microscope.
    Nice job Sir.

Yes, this work is very tedious and it is a strain for the eyes too, even when we use microscope. Many thanks, dear!

I fully understand that fixing tv screens is no thrill in doing such service work this way. But at least it was a clear written article with good results in the only option that was left.

Dear Parasuraman:If the customer is happy, we can feel good too. I have worked on an expensive Sony receiver over 30 years old, we got it working to the customers satisfaction, not mine. Some of those IC's are no longer available and were made by Sony. So you do the best you can sometimes.

Could you please describe in more finer details how you determined what lines to cut. The scaler boards can sometimes have about 50 copper conductor lines on them. Does an ohmmeter detect a low impedance pixel line or is a scope used to detect waveform loss? What dc voltages are normal and not normal? Please specify or were you only guessing at it by trial and error?
