What is Tuner Subber?

By on April 4, 2008

If you are repairing TV, tuner subber (substitute tuner) would be a great help to you. So what is Tuner Subber? Tuner Subber is actually a device used to determine whether the tuner in a TV receiver is defective. Tuner subber also has output at video-IF, sound -IF, video, and audio frequencies. Subber can perform other functions, in addition to substituting for the VHF tuner.

1) Substitute for VHF tUNER

2) Test UHF tuner by feeding receiver, UHF-tuner output to a 40Mhz internal amplifier

3) Substitute for video IF, video detector, or vuideo amplifier stage.

4) Substitute for sound limiter, sound detector, or audio amplifier stage.

Nowadays it is hardly heard of this stand alone device but there is one equipment that have this function which is the Sencore VA48 Video Analyzer.

seems like a very expensive machine. since crt tv is a dying trade (at least in my country) it is not wise to invest in this kind of machine. I just use a working tuner and replace it and see if it works or not. I find that more logic and lest expensive.
