Motor Fault In Telesonic Stand Fan
The complaint of this Telesonic fan was the Power and Timer was On but the fan not rotating.
I opened the fan cover and removed the fan motor screws. This is to check if there is any thermal fuse reside in it.
Sometimes this thermal fuse can be opened circuit so replacing only the fuse may bring the fan back to life again.
I did not see any thermal fuse built in but what I saw was the coil wires were burnt. This means it was overheated and there is no way you can repair it. The only way is to replace with a fan motor.
After spoken to my customer he agreed to pay for the new fan motor. So I went ahead to get a new fan motor -see the photo below.
It was not tough to fix in the new fan motor as all the screws holes are all in original position. Just install the fan to its original location and fix in the screws and you are done.
One thing that took me sometime was the fan motor wires. First take a snapshot of the original wiring with your digital camera or camera from your phone. By referring to the photo, you are now ready to cut away the old wiring and solder in the new wiring.
Once done all the soldering, I powered up the fan and saw the shaft was rotating and I was happy as my job was done. See you again in the next article.

Good job, Suranga. I found the thermal fuse in a fan I repaired for my son hidden in the wiring.

How much was the motor worth? In my country it is a lot cheaper to buy a new one than replacing the motor. I hope it was worth your time and money. Good repair though

excellentjob! i have found that in fan motors a cause of failure is the motor bearing run out of oil and the motor slowly slows down and finally seizes. the motor windings get hot and the thermal fuse opens. thats what its there for. never jump it because that motor can get red hot and start the plastic housing on fire if the motor winding does not open in time. that thermal fuse is sometimes buried deep in the windings and sometimes hard to find and thats a reson people simply through the fan away and buy a new one. thermal fuses come in diferent trip temperatures and just putting in any fuse will not give proper protection. make sure you use the rite fuse with the same rating.

Hi, you are lucky in finding a similar motor. In my country it's very hard to get a new one and we have to wind the coils, an expensive process.
