  • Place the needle over the pin to desolder. Press down slightly with your index finger to keep the needle in place. Don’t presses too hard or the needle will get bend.
  • Melt the solder on the pin with the tip of a soldering iron whilst pressing the needle and twist the needle clockwise and anti clockwise. The needle will pop through the PCB. On 2-layer PCBs: keep pressing and heating, it’ll pop through a second time.

  • Remove soldering tip, let it cool and remove needle while twisting it. The solder doesn’t stick to the needle, the pin is free.

As a professional technician,, using the proper equipment to de solder would be more appropriate and safer by using hopefully unused needles,,idea interesting. You would need a prescription for needles in USA,, in other countries maybe not,, they could be used. Try the pistol grip HAKKO SYSTEM de solder or a vacuum plunger,, It would be more assuring

I don't know where you heard that at. I have some for mixing my e-juice for vaping and I didn't need a prescription.

      Dave Vazquez,
I have already mentioned "if you can’t afford expensive De-soldering tools" in this article.

for professional technician many more options are available like dust proof lab,Anti-static Apron,Anti-static shoes ,Anti-static Hand glows Anti-static Cap,Anti-static Work bench,Anti-static Tools,Eye Glasses and many more if you can afford for safety purpose & we are not aware of if you need any prescription for Blunt needles.

      Thanks for your comment.

Thanks for the information Yogesh. I already use a not hollow simple small metal pointy tapered metal pricker in case any solder is hard to remove from copper vias. I always manage to unsolder components first so do not need to buy any expensive tools for this.

Very good Yogesh , something different and interesting. Not everyone has a professional de-soldering tool and this tip will help many. Not sure though about the availability of those needles. But it is something worth to try.
Thanks for sharing and Happy New Year to you and anyone reading this message.

    Cheers,
    GM

      Gerald Musy,

      Thanks for your comment.
These needles are ordinary medical needles which doctors are using. just take appropriate number of the needle match the needle hole with lead of the component & cut the needle tip with use of cutter by making it blunt so that it won't heart you while using that's all.

Certainly looks like a good idea. However, one needs to be careful not to push too hard as it may lift or damage the copper pads.
Anyway, a set of needles is available from Banggood.com and the price is reasonable. Here is the link
