Servicing Sony TA-V10 Amplifier
This amplifier was brought to me with the complaint that one channel is not working. Checked up and confirmed it was true. Opened the set and cleaned it thoroughly and lubricated all the controls and connectors. Patched up a few dry solders and checked ESR of capacitors and found these to be in condition.
This amplifier has a relay protection circuit. So, checked up the contacts of the relay and found these also to be working fine. Fed audio signal at the input and traced it with oscilloscope at various stages and found these to be ok. Used headphone and tested the signal and found the output perfect and balanced. Perhaps some dry solder or dirt collection was the problem. Have a look the inside of this amplifier. This amplifier uses STK series module as its power amp.
Some work like this comes easy, though occasionally. When this was brought to me, I was expecting a challenge to solve, but did not provide enough thrill, though the satisfaction list got added!
This customer was a deserving person to do a free service so I did not charge him anything!

Yea, probably was a dry joint, since it worked after you resoldered it, thorough repair work, excellent job'.

Good thing that you were able to pinpoint it to some minor solder problems after ruling out the list of standard amplifier problems.

Great work Sir. I want to ask can we use power amp board directly by connecting transformer to supply Ac (voltage) power and use mobile to give input signal, connecting speakers to output terminal of power amp board?

This is a very wild question. Whenever I find difficulty in trouble shooting a set because of lack of space within to insert probes etc, I do take out the board and keep it outside and connect it to its own power supply. Sometimes, I even remove the transformer for doing this. As long as you use its own power supply, it's OK.
